A quick look to THE PROVINCE OF FERMO:

Starting out from the shore this itinerary will lead you on a discovery tour of small and large towns steeped  in history and surrounded by beauty. The castle walls are still intact in Altidona and the charming, panoramic hilltop town of Torre di Palme offers visitors a chance to dip into the healing waters of the "Terme Fonti di Palme", and see various mediaval buildings, as well as the Church of Sant'Agostino with its polyptych by Vittorie Crivelli.

Not far away is the fortified town of Moresco, with two anciet towers and a characteristic court yard-like piazza around which there are houses, the Palazzo Comunaleand a portico. Just a bit further on is the Church of the Madonna della Salute with an image of the Immacolata which, thet say, was saved from the iconoclastic fury in Costantinople during the 9th century. Take some time in Monterubbiano, the hometown of Vincenzo Pagani, to see some of his works in the 19th century Collegiata di Santa Maria dei Letterati and, if you are there at Pentecost, to enojoy the re-enactment of the Armata di Pentecoste Sciò la Pica with the Giostra dell'Anello (joust of the Ring). As you head back towards the coast, we suggest you stop in to see the remains of Medieval fortifications at Petritoli, which was founded in the 10th century by monks from Farfa. You can see traces of this hub of religious and civic life in the Rocca, and the small groupings of compact houses where, in 1831, the City Tower was built. Three pointed archways erected in the 19th century flanked by two round towers from the 15th century lead to the ancient nucleus. The Teatro dell'Iride, a fine example of theatre architecture, was designed by Giuseppe Sabbatini and built in 1873.

Santa Vittoria in Matenano is an historically important town for the Church of Santa Vittoria built here in the 10th century by Farfa Monks. Head to the fortified town  of Montefalcone Appennino, located on the top of a hill. It cannot be accessed from the south-west because of its 200 m-high steep cliff and is home to the interesting remains of a Medieval Fortress. A kilometre further on is the Convent of the Minori di San Giovanni in Selva, with a charming cloister featuring a lovely arched loggia and central water well, a fine example of 16th century convent architecture. Until recently, it houses one of the most important polyptychs done by Pietro Alamanno, now on display at the homonymous museum, which is also the seat of the Environmental Education Centre, an educational museum with an extensive collection of precious fossils.

You'll soon reach Smerillo, a gracious little town set on the edge of a crest at an altitude of more then 800 metres overlooking the Tenna Valley. There is a fissure in the cliff side known as La Fessa where you can see fossils remains. In the Bosco di Smerillo you can admire rare protected floral species, including orchids, and there is a lovely beech forest and monumental trees. Head to Amandola, which has a lovely historical centre graced by the Church of Sant'Agostino, Church of San Francesco, the Palazzo Municipale, which houses an archive of ancient documents, and a fascinating Anthropology and Geography Museum. Amandola is famous for its wood working, furniture restoration, antiques, truffles (infact the have a fair in February-March) and the International Theatre Festival (in September). Make sure to see ther nearby Romanesque Abbey complex of San Ruffino and Vitale (with frescos dating to the 13th-14th century) and San Ruffino Lake. Make sure not to miss Montefortino, which still has the medieval atmosphere with narrow streets, stone houses and a Picture Gallery full of artworks coming from the collection of the artist Fortunato Duranti. Get on the road that goes along the Ambro river and you'll soon reach the Sanctuary of the Madonna dell'Ambro, built to commemorate the miraculous apparition of the Virgin. Another road leads to the rugged and evocative Gola dell'Infernaccio (Gorge). Now head to Campofilone, famous for its maccheroncini (a kind of pasta to which a festival is devoted in August). The historical centre has an elliptical layout, many houses built against the old castle walls, and small alleys covered with vaults or cross ceilings. As you go back towards the coast you'll come across Pedaso, a popular resort town with a rocky shore and pebbly beaches. On the 15th of August they hold a characteristic Mussel Festival.
